League Administration
A league season runs for 8 weeks, with a 1-week break between weeks 4 and 5 (during which there may be a relay or other special event). Players are expected to complete 1 seed per week as participants in the main league. Concurrently, the Tent of Horrors will have a seed of the week open to anyone, league participant or otherwise.
League administrators may participate in the league, but each season has at least 1 non-participating administrator. Non-participating administrators should have the final say in exact format and schedule if there are conflicts.
League Outline
Main League
Participants in the main league play 1 seed per week. The flags are listed on the [/](front page) and may change as the season progresses.
During the season, players will receive points each week based on their rank within their division. For the final scoring of the league, only a player's best 6 scores will be considered. The two lowest (including DNF/forfeit scores) will be dropped. Therefore, players may miss up to 2 weeks without their score being affected significantly, but should complete as many races as they are able.
At the end of the season, players may be promoted or demoted between ranks for the next season.
Standings will be updated on the league website weekly, roughly when the next week's races are created.
The flags will be set for the whole league and whole season, but each division will play a unique seed.
Tent of Horrors
While administered jointly and running concurrently, the Tent of Horrors is not limited to main league participants nor required for main league participants. Anyone may play. It's for fun!
The Tent of Horrors runs concurrently to the main league and consists of a variety of flagsets and options that don't appear in the league itself. For the Tent of Horrors, there are no ranks or divisions, and points are not assigned as each race is self-contained. Each week, the top 3 players will receive congratulations, and highlights/comments will be posted if available. Each week's flags will be determined by the league administrators and are announced when the async is posted (Mystery seeds will only be announced as such).
Relay
There will be a break halfway through the 8-week season. If there is enough interest, the league may elect to hold a relay race. Like the Tent of Horrors, this will not have an impact on league scoring.
Ranks, Divisions, and Seeding
For the main ladder, players will be seeded into ranks; some ranks may be further split into divisions.
Promotions and demotions are covered in more detail in their own section.
Rainbow
The top rank is Rainbow and includes up to 7 players.
Rainbow is meant to be competitive, and should be filled with 7 players whenever possible, even if this means sparing players from demotion.
There are no divisions within Rainbow -- it's the top up-to-7 players, period. Up to the bottom 4 finishers in Rainbow may be demoted to Wonder, and the top 3 finishers in Rainbow in a season will not be eligible for demotion to Wonder.
Wonder
At this rank and below, the rank may be split into sub-divisions, given enough signups. Within a division of Wonder, the top 2 (or sometimes 3) players should be eligible for promotion to Rainbow and the bottom 2 should be eligible for demotion if Crisis rank exists.
There should never be more than 2 divisions within Wonder (to match the 2 * 2 promotions from Wonder to the 4 demotions from Rainbow).
Crisis
This rank is yet to be established. At this rank and below, the bottom 3 finishers in a division may be eligible for demotion and the top 2 should be eligible for promotion.
Scoring & Ranking
Main League
Please note the point spread has changed for season 2.
If 2 or more players tie, they will all receive the higher point total. A tie is defined as finishing within 5 seconds of the highest tied time. So, if player A finishes with 1:54:03, player B with 1:54:06, and player C with 1:54:10, then A and B have tied but C is more than 5 seconds behind A and so is not included. However, if player D were to finish with 1:54:14, then C and D would be tied.
Points for each rank within a week:
Finish Rank | Points |
---|---|
1 | 7 |
2 | 5 |
3 | 4 |
4 | 3 |
5 | 2 |
6+ | 1 |
DNF/Forfeit | 0 |
Tent of Horrors
The Tent of Horrors welcomes chaos, so the spread is intentionally volatile. The ToH has no bearing on your standing in the main league; the reward for winning is a) bragging rights and b) cat food.
Finish Rank | Points |
---|---|
1 | 15 |
2 | 13 |
3 | 12 |
4 | 10 |
5 | 9 |
6 | 8 |
7-8 | 7 |
9-12 | 5 |
13 | 3 |
14 | 2 |
15+ | 1 |
DNF/Forfeit | 0 |
Promotion and Demotion
Players who finish in the top few places of their division may be promoted to the next rank (or stay in the top rank) for the next season. Similarly, players who finish in the bottom few places may be at risk for demotion.
Players may play seasons consecutively or not, but may not refuse promotion or demotion when earned. A player who has missed one or more seasons is entitled to a spot in the previous rank they earned so long as there is room. If not, they will be placed in the highest possible rank otherwise.
Late sign-ups from previous seasons: In order to ensure you keep your rank from the previous season, you must register on time. If you sign up late, you will be treated as if you've skipped a season: you will be given the highest possible rank at or below what you earned the last time you played, but not given priority over on-time signups.
New Players: New players begin at the lowest possible rank. This is currently Wonder, but ultimately depends on total number of signups.
Rainbow
In order:
- The top 3 finishers (or otherwise the earned "protected" set of finishers) in Rainbow from the previous season.
- The top 4 finishers in Wonder (or otherwise the earned promotions from Wonder) from the previous season.
- Players who earned a promotion to Rainbow one season prior, ordered by recency of their most recent season and then score within that season.
- The other players from Rainbow in the previous season, who earned a potential demotion.
- Players who earned a promotion to Rainbow more than one season prior, ordered by recency of their most recent season and then rank within that season.
- Players ranked 5-8 from Wonder in the previous season.
Wonder
For any not put into Rainbow by the above rules:
- Players from the previous season eligible for demotion from Wonder, from highest to lowest score.
- Players who were in Wonder the previous season and did not earn promotion nor demotion.
- Players who earned a promotion from Crisis in the previous season.
- Players who earned a promotion to Wonder in an older season, ordered by recency of their most recent season and then rank within that season.
Crisis
This rank will be opened when we have the participants to support it.
Play & Streaming Rules
Streaming and VODs
Players are required to submit a VOD (video on demand) of each week's asynchronous race. Acceptable platforms for the VOD include Twitch, YouTube, or Google Drive. Videos are required in case of any disputes which might arise or in case the league administrators must break a tie.
Players are highly encouraged to record their seed each week, and are welcome to stream it. A race recording may be required in some circumstances, such as participation in a relay, featuring in restreams, or in case of a dispute.
Players may not watch a stream or recording of a seed for their own division until they have completed the seed themselves. Discussion of the seed must remain limited to designated spoiler areas.
Players streaming their runs should put their chat in emote-only mode to avoid spoilers, and must not receive spoiler information prior to completion from anyone (unless the seed allows for an open spoiler log). However, general reference information such as the wiki is permitted, so long as it does not reveal information about their specific seed.
Players may take short breaks in the middle of a league seed.
Restreams
Ideally we will have at least one restream per week. Rainbow rank will get priority more of the time, but other ranks should also get showcased, and showing Tent of Horrors seeds is also nice. All of this largely depends on availability of crew and discretion of the league administrators. Where possible, the commentary crew for a restream should come from a different division than the one being streamed, or from outside the pool of league participants. Those who assist as stream crew will be prioritized for featuring in future restreams.
Meta-rules and Fair Play
The league administration team may update the rules as necessary to clarify things or account for loopholes, but whenever possible this will happen between seasons and be clearly communicated. Players should avoid trying to undermine the rules system because we're all here for fun and like, seriously, just go get a law degree or something instead. But if you do find something let us know so we can make things clearer, too!
Jets of Time events are created with the expectation of fair play. The admin team reserves the right to discipline any players who are purposefully exploiting loopholes in the rules or otherwise violating the expectation of fair play. Any extraordinary glitches that are discovered within the scope of the Millennial Prix League will be evaluated for action by the admins.
Cheating
Getting knowledge of the seed beforehand is illegal, as is viewing the race restream or stream of another racer in your division. As such, you may not open the race restream or the stream of another player in your division if you have not already completed the weekly race. For the entire time you are running your race, you may not gain knowledge of the seed from any source other than your single instance of the seed running on a permitted emulator or console.
We all want to support and cheer on other racers, but remember spoiling another's race is also disallowed.
If streaming to Twitch, turning your chat to emote only is highly recommended.
If you suspect an opponent of cheating, please broach the subject privately with an admin team member along with whatever evidence you have. We will conduct an investigation into it on our own. The admin team reserves the right to remove and ban offenders from future leagues/our other community races based on our discretion. For further information on requesting a review of any race, please see the Review Request section below.
Admin Review
If a race is found to have issues or irregularities, the race is then placed under Admin Review and the results of the race will be held for recording until the review is complete. Issues such as incomplete VODs/recordings of a race may be reviewed by any member of the admin team and as noted above, providing footage to complete the recordings is sufficient in most cases.
Races in which there are further irregularities (example: use of a hitherto unknown glitch), questions about player conduct, or include actions that require a clarification of the rules of the tournament will be reviewed solely by the Non-Competing Admin. Non-Competing Admin refers to admin that did not originally sign up for the event or have been eliminated from the event and thus have no conflicts of interest regarding the results of their rulings.
An admin review may have several outcomes depending on the exact nature of the situation. Common outcomes include - letting the original results stand, request for a re-race, and determining that a runner was in violation of the rules, or their time is then forfeited. In extraordinary cases, a runner may be disqualified from the tournament, banned from future Jets of Time competitive events, or banned from the server as a result of an admin review.
Racers are expected to compete with the intention of winning the race. Intentionally delaying or inflating one's time to take a sub-optimal result with the intention of benefiting other players may be cause for action by the admin team.
Review Request
In addition to Admins choosing to conduct their own reviews of matches, players may also request that their race be reviewed by the admin team. Should a player wish to request an admin review of a race, please reach out to one of the tournament admins via Discord DM. Please have the race in question, the relevant VOD links, and any notes about the race you have handy at the time of contact.
